The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is alerting the public to a potential "employment fraud" being conducted through a fake Whistler Public Library website.
In a notice posted July 31, the RMOW said a website is posing as the local library using the web address whistlerpubliclibrary.info.
"The site hosts a job application for online library work at the URL: whistlerpubliclibrary.info/job-description. The positions advertised at the fraudulent URL do not exist," the RMOW said.
"Jobs for the Whistler Public Library are posted on the RMOW careers page at whistler.ca/municipal-services/careers. Please do not fill out an application for an RMOW or Whistler Public Library job which is not found on whistler.ca, the municipal website."
Those who may have filled out the fraudulent application can report it (and all other cybercrimes) to the Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044, or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by calling 1-888-495-8501.
"We recommend citizens verify sources before giving out personal information," the RMOW said. "If you lose money to an online scam, you can contact your financial institution for assistance. To our knowledge, no one has lost money to this site at this time."
