The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) office in Whistler is getting a $3.3-million facelift.
The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) granted a contract to Vancouver-based Dawn Construction Ltd on July 8 during a regular council meeting for renovations to the Whistler Public Safety Building (PSB). Construction is scheduled to start this month, and the project is expected to be completed by February 2026. The building is located at 4315 Blackcomb Way, across from Parking Lot 3.
While the exact specifics of the plans are under wraps due to the secure nature of the RCMP office, upgrades include renovating the second floor and replacing municipal human resource and information technology offices for RCMP use to provide more space for officers. Upgrades include HVAC, plumbing, security, audio/visual systems and layout and access control systems. Fire and sprinkler protection throughout the first and second floors will get a tune-up, and the main floor is also being renovated.
Updates on disruptions from construction will be posted via RMOW social media, said Mike King, manager of facility construction management, during his presentation to council. Plans are in place to ensure staff can continue working in the building throughout the construction period.
The total price tag for upgrades, sans GST, is $3,375,234.04. Six companies bid on the project, and two adhered to the bid requirements. Dawn Construction’s estimated costs came in under budget by 18 per cent.
When adding in additional expenses for project management and security, the total project cost is estimated at $3,621,264.
The PSB has seen numerous upgrades over the years. First built in 1979, renovations and expansions have aimed to meet all the needs of multiple groups working out of the space.
