A stabbing in the area of Spruce Grove, pictured, this weekend left a Whistler youth with non-life-threatening injuries.

A local youth sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a stabbing last weekend at a birthday party in Spruce Grove, Whistler police said in a release.

At around 11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, Whistler RCMP responded to the report of an assault with a weapon that investigators learned took place about an hour earlier in the area of Spruce Grove, where police said approximately 100 youths had gathered for a birthday party.

Officers attended the scene and police dog services also conducted an article search. Whistler RCMP said it is “working closely with the schools” on the ongoing investigation.

(Pique has requested additional information on the assault and will update this story when we hear back from law enforcement.)

Mounties urged parents to speak with their kids about the incident.

“I am extremely concerned with what is occurring amongst our Whistler Youth at the moment,” said Cpl. Nate Miller of the Whistler RCMP in the release. “This event could have had a tragic outcome.”

On Oct. 1, police warned of a potential fight—and threatened stabbing—that they had reason to believe was going to take place that weekend between groups of youth from the Lower Mainland and the Sea to Sky. Police issued a release advising the community of increased patrols and urging parents to have an open conversation with their children to “ensure they stay safe this weekend.”

Ultimately, the fight didn’t come to pass.

According to police, the threats allegedly stemmed from an earlier altercation at a Vancouver mall, and local detachments communicated with parents of individuals “who could be involved or targeted, just to let them know what was going on,” said Sea to Sky RCMP Officer-in-Charge Insp. Robert Dykstra in an earlier interview with Pique.

The RCMP is asking anyone with information on last weekend’s stabbing to contact the detachment’s non-emergency line at 604-932-3044, or Sea to Sky Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or solvecrime.ca to remain anonymous.
