Environment Canada is forecasting windy conditions for Whistler this Thanksgiving Monday.

Heading to Whistler Mountain Bike Park today for one last lap of A-Line? Get ready to battle some wind on your way down.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement in effect for the resort municipality on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 10, warning of powerful wind gusts that are expected to begin blowing across B.C.'s South Coast this afternoon and into the evening.

Forecasters say northwest winds of 40 kilometres per hour, with gusts of up to 60 km/h, could "toss loose objects and cause drought-weakened tree branches to break." These events may result in injuries, property damage or power outages, according to the statement.

The region's first wind event of the season comes courtesy of a cold front that's sweeping through the South Coast this afternoon. Winds will be strongest near the water and are expected to ease as the front passes through the province later tonight.

The last half of this holiday Monday may be windy, but skies will be dry: Environment Canada said little to no precipitation is expected to fall during the wind event.

On Tuesday conditions will return to the unseasonably warm, sunny drought conditions Whistler has experienced so far this fall, with clear skies and highs expected to hover around the 20 degree C mark for the rest of the week.

Monday marks Whistler Blackcomb's final day of summer sightseeing operations, and closing day for the Whistler Mountain Bike Park.
