Eight Whistlerites podium at 2024 Payak Loppet

A handful of locals distinguished themselves on Feb. 24 in the Coast Outdoors Payak Loppet at Whistler Olympic Park (WOP). 

Michael Murdoch won the men's 50-kilometre race in a sprint finish (2:27:21.60), while fellow Whistlerite Lesley Clements earned silver in the women's 25-km (1:29:45.80). Tammy Shore ended up 22nd overall, but skied fast enough for third in the 45-49 age category (2:01:08.20). 

In the men's 15-km event, Craig Mackenzie (1:00:38.30) punched into 11th overall, including second among competitors aged 70 to 74. 

Andreas Inkster (41:07.90) and Brydon Irvine Harris (53:32.50) clinched the Cheryl Morningstar Award after prevailing in the boys' and girls' 15-km races respectively. 

Sahnqa Lammens (22:08.60) and Ryder White-Shore (24:46.30) put together a one-two finish in the In the 5-km boys' mini. 

Snow was soft in Callaghan Valley all day, as temperatures did not dip below freezing in the previous 48 hours. A total of 146 athletes participated in 25-km disciplines and 85 started the 50-km.
