The Whistler Gymnastics Club wrapped up its competitive season last weekend with a final meet in Kelowna, Ogopogo 2005, which was well attended by clubs from the interior and Lower Mainland.
Despite the number of athletes, Whistler gymnasts had strong results in several competitive categories.
In the Provincial Beginner Argo group, Emily Cankovic was 10 th all around, but finished sixth on the floor out of 14 athletes.
In the Provincial Beginner Tyro and Novice Group, Victoria Jazic was sixth all around after finishing first on the beam with a 9.3, tying for third on the bars, and placing fourth on the floor.
Tyece Fairweather was eighth all around, but earned a silver medal on the beam and a fourth place ribbon on the bars.
Meg Halliwell earned a bronze for her beam routine, and Kelly Taylor finished sixth, seventh and eighth on the bars, beam and floor respectively.
In the Provincial Level 1, 11 year old group, Lenka Prochazka finished ninth all around out of 26 athletes with an eighth on vault and a 10 th on beam. Desirae Smith was 19 th all around. Jasmin Budge was 22 nd , with a seventh place on beam.
In the 12 year old group, Shannon MacDonald was sixth on beam and 23 rd all around.
Nicola Haliwell won a bronze on the beam and was sixth all around in the 13 year old group. Annik Tetreault was ninth on bars and floor to finish 13 th , and Sonya D’Artois was 10 th on beam and 18 th all around.
In the Level 2 Tyro group, Rebecca Flynn placed third on the beam and sixth on the bars.
In the LEAP group, a pre-competitive category where girls are tested for skills and fitness, several girls advanced to the next level. Cambria Willis, Cate Sproule, Hannah Raffler, Megan Moody, Averi Willis and Ali Marriott passed their copper level in the skills category. Megan Moody, Hannah Raffler, Ali Marriott and Alexandra Shuker earned copper pins for passing both the skills and physical ability tests.
