Half-pipe team has big Whistler talent

Canada's half-pipe snowboarding team has some big local talent this year with almost half the team calling Whistler home.

Canada's half-pipe snowboarding team has some big local talent this year with almost half the team calling Whistler home.

The half-pipe team was announced this week and of the 12 members, five are from Whistler including: Mercedes Nicoll, Katie Tsuyuki, Justin Lamoureux, Crispin Lipscomb and Dan Raymond.

Other team members for the women: Sarah Conrad, Dartmouth, N.S; Alex Duckworth, Kingburg, N.S.; Charmaine Ironside, Calgary; and Dominique Vallee, Montreal.

And men: Jeff Batchelor, Oakville, Ont; Derek Livingstone, Aurora, Ont; and Brad Martin, Ancaster, Ont.

Their World Cup season begins this month in Cardrona, New Zealand.

The event is one of the final qualifiers leading up to the 2010 Winter Games.

The season culminates in late March with the 2010 Canadian Snowboard Championships.
