2024 didn't bring Jesse Melamed to the lofty heights of his Enduro World Series (EWS)-winning 2022 campaign, and now his offseason will feature plenty of rehabilitation from an injured elbow.
The Whistlerite was injured in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Que. in early October amidst training for the downhill season finale.
"Flew home post [Mont-Sainte-Anne] for a CT scan and they found two more fractures in my elbow on top of the original displaced fracture the X-ray showed," recounted Melamed on social media. "Met with the surgeon after that and he surprised me by saying he doesn’t want to do surgery. The displaced fracture is stable and should heal fine so now I’m just playing the waiting game until I can start rehab.
"Things are good, I’ve got time and I’m happy it’s not worse. Currently enjoying the rest and excited for when I can get back to 2025 prep. Another year at it!"
Melamed managed to place sixth in UCI Enduro World Cup (EDR) standings by collecting 1520 points as top Canadian, but he had to watch Richie Rude attain GOAT status with an unmatched fourth overall title (2640).
Slawomir Lukasik (2088) pulled up second in the elite men's rankings in a tight battle with third-placer Charles Murray (2031).
Wei Tien Ho rode to within shouting distance of the U21 men's campaign podium, but wound up fourth (773). Instead it was Bailey Christie (974) who edged out JT Fisher (972) and Sascha Kim (839) in the top three.
Ho now turns his attention to the snow, for he's earned a wildcard spot on the upcoming Freeride World Tour (FWT) circuit.
