Eighteen Whistlerites compete in races
Heavy rains couldnt stop a field of more than 6,300 runners from taking part in the 2003 Royal Victoria Marathon and Half Marathon last weekend.
Some 18 Whistler runners took part in both the full and the half marathon, including some newcomers to long distance racing.
Because of the views, the weather, and the relatively flat course, the Royal Victoria Marathon is consistently ranked as one of the top races in the North America, as well as a top destination for first-timers.
Racing in the womens 30 to 34 age group, Lisa Kallio finished the entire 42.2 km marathon in three hours and 16 minutes, crossing the line in 186 th position. She was the 16 th woman, and fourth in her age group.
James Duffy was 328 th out of almost 2,700 marathon finishers, completing the race in 3:27:42. He was 291 st among men, and 51 st in the mens 30 to 34 group.
Greg Sandkuhl finished 20 th in the mens 55 to 59 group, 636 th overall and 527 th among men with a time of 3:42:59.
Gail Gafka was 61 st in the womens 35 to 39 group with a time of 3:59:13. That placed her in 1,079 th overall and 281 st among women.
Ian Inniss came in 153 rd in the mens 30 to 34 group with a time of 4:33:56.
Craig Mustonen was 168 th in the same category with a time of 4:42:32.
In the half-marathon, Sandy Treagus was the top Whistler entry, finishing 153 rd overall and 19 th in the mens 35 to 39 age group with a time of 1:32:33.
Rory Tucker was next, finishing 272 nd out of a field of more than 3,680 finishers with a time of 1:37:28. He was 50 th in the 30 to 34 age group.
Shizuo Kashino was 326 th overall and 47 th in the mens 40 to 44 race in 1:39:27.
Brenda Davison-Flann was 441 st overall, 116 th among women, and 21 st in the 40 to 44 category with a time of 1:43:13.
Jean Treagus was 516 th overall, 143 rd among women and 30 th in the womens 35 to 39 category.
Belinda Mogridge was 857 th overall, 284 th among women and 57 th in the 30 to 34 group with a time of 1:50:51.
Megan Wastle was 361 st among women and 61 st in the 25 to 29 category with a time of 1:53:10.
Christie McJannet finished in 72 nd position in the same category, although she was just two minutes back with a time of 1:55:13.
Murray Blair was 150 th in the mens 35 to 39 group, finishing in 1:58:48.
Sheila MacDonald was 172 nd in the womens 35 to 39 race with a time of 2:04:13.
Erin Morrison was 64 th in the womens 20 to 24 category in 2:07:41.
Sarah Gendron finished just one second back to land 162 nd in the womens 25 to 29 race.
