Lumpy’s Epic scheduled for next weekend

It’s that time of year again – the time to lace up your running shoes and head to Pemberton.

The fifth annual Lumpy’s Epic is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 23 in honour of Geoff "Lumpy" Leidal, a popular local mountain biker and skier who died in an avalanche in 1998.

It’s known as a low-key locals run. This year, as in the past, it will be 12 kilometres of fairly technical singletrack with some hills thrown in for good measure.

The strongest runners can finish in under an hour but participants can take two hours or more to run the course, while taking in the breathtaking panorama of the Pemberton Valley.

Participants can choose to walk, run or hike the trail.

Registration for the event takes place between 9 and 9:30 a.m. at One Mile Lake in Pemberton. The run begins at 10 a.m.

A potluck post-race table will be set up for the runners/walkers after the race. Participants can bring a potluck treat but are not required to do so.

Registration costs $15 and all proceeds will go towards the Pemberton Spud Valley Nordics.
