Magic Park gets another trail

New sections of Freight Train, Crank It Up opening

The Whistler Mountain Bike Park is always a work in progress, and this year is no exception.

According to manager Tom Prochazka, the Garbanzo opened with two new sections of Freight Train, including a section with open containers, and a bypass for where crews are doing work on the Olympic venues. A new section of Crank It Up, which Prochazka describes as an "intermediate A-Line" should open within the next two weeks, and there is a new section on the lower part of Dirt Merchant.

"There’s always a lot of new construction going on, and maintenance of existing trails," said Prochazka. "People are going to see new things all summer."

But while the Whistler Mountain Bike Park is the main focus, the Magic Park on Blackcomb is also getting a bit of an overhaul this week. Crews are in the process of adding a third trail to the area, which was created with children and absolute beginners in mind.

According to Prochazka the trail should be ready for this weekend.

"We’re just hoping to get a few more kids riding up there," he said. "(The new trail) will have some super low level features for kids to ride on and make the park a bit more interesting to ride. It’s something to progress with, since the Whistler park is still too big for small kids. For someone who is six years old, the runs are too long for their hands, so we decided to get more stuff happening up there."

Whistler-Blackcomb is also planning a new promotion for the Magic Park that will focus on the family aspect, which will be announced next week.
