Young Whistlerite ski cross racers Emeline Bennett and Nick Katrusiak both struck gold in Nakiska at the opening event of the 2023-24 Nor-Am Cup season.

Bennett prevailed first on Dec. 9, ahead of Americans Morgan Shute and Maggie Swain, but wound up fifth in the following day's contest.

Katrusiak was the opposite: settling for sixth on day one, but breaking through on Dec. 10 for victory. Jack Mitchell of Team USA earned silver, while fellow Canadian Zachary Reynolds took bronze.

Bennett and Katrusiak are each gunning for a January World Cup berth in Nakiska. They must now wait and see if they've done enough to qualify.

While the NextGen athletes were doing their thing, Anne-Marie Joncas was making her case for Canada to send her to the 2024 Youth Olympic Games in South Korea. After winning both qualifying races, Joncas did enough to clinch silver and bronze when it mattered most.
