Photos: Six local athletes qualify for 2024 BC Winter Games

Veya Stevens, Namumiskoo Lammens, Claire Benson, Holden Wilson, Max Murray and Reed Murray made the cut

Half a dozen young athletes from the Sea to Sky corridor have recently punched their ticket to the BC Winter Games in Quesnel.

Spud Valley cross-country skiers Namumiskoo Lammens and Veya Stevens both qualified for U14 female placements after pushing hard through rainy conditions on Dec. 31, when unseasonably mild temperatures and lack of snow forced officials to make last-minute modifications to the racecourse.

Meanwhile, Sea to Sky Nordics biathletes Claire Benson, Holden Wilson, Max Murray, and Reed Murray raced against other Zone 5 athletes over two brisk days on Jan. 6 and 7, and all qualified in their junior divisions for BC Winter Games. Conditions for these events were ideal after Whistler Olympic Park (WOP) received over 40 centimetres of snow

“The kids worked extremely hard at dryland training this fall, and it was quite exciting to see the kids from the Coast Corridor United training group all perform so well in their respective disciplines,” said Whistler Nordics president Dan Wilson in a press release.

The 2024 BC Winter Games take place from Feb. 22 to 25.
