Good morning, Whistlerites, Squamolians and Pembertonians! Summer is in full swing, and it's a great week for more sports trivia! Here is last week's trivia, in case you didn't see it.

And now for a fresh batch:

1. Who was the first Canadian tennis player ever to win a Grand Slam title?

A) Bianca Andreescu

B) Eugenie Bouchard

C) Sebastien Lareau

D) Milos Raonic 

Answer: C. In 1999, Sebastien Laureau and his American-born partner Alex O'Brien won the men's doubles final of that year's U.S. Open. Bianca Andreescu is the first Canadian ever to win a Grand Slam singles title when she downed Serena Williams in 2019 in straight sets.

2. Who is the all-time leader in strikeouts for the Toronto Blue Jays?

A) Roy Halladay

B) Dave Stieb

C) J.A. Happ

D) Jim Clancy

Answer: B. Seven-time MLB All-Star Dave Stieb racked up 1658 strikeouts in a Blue Jays uniform from 1979 to 1992. The late Roy Halladay is second in franchise history with 1495 punchouts. 

3. Whistler-based golfer Stewart Walker has committed to play NCAA Division I golf this fall. Which school will he be attending?

A) New York University

B) Hofstra University

C) University of California, Berkeley

D) Long Island University

Answer: D. Stewart Walker has committed to play for Long Island University, where he will also study finance.

4. Which year did the first Kentucky Derby horse race take place?

A) 1875

B) 1883

C) 1905

D) 1918 

Answer: A. The inaugural Kentucky Derby took place on May 17, 1875 and was won by a horse named Aristides. This year, the champion horse was named Mage.
