Ross Rebagliati, the face of snowboarding in Canada, is back it seems after taking more the past two seasons off racing to explore other options.
The world’s first Olympic snowboard gold medalist raced in a the World Cup parallel giant slalom in Berchtesgaden, Germany last weekend (Feb. 11), filling in for the Canadian alpine team snowboarders who were participating in a training camp in Whistler.
The 29-year-old Whistler resident finished 41 st in a field of 80 competitors – not bad when you consider that Rebagliati had all but announced his retirement from the sport.
Since he pulled out of World Cup racing and announced that he would not compete in the 2002 Olympics, Rebagliati has been busy working on media projects, building a home, and launching his own snowboard.
