Sea to Sky Trail Ride finds camping location

The Sea to Sky Trail Ride will go ahead this year, after arrangements were made to use the Riverside Campground as the overnight stop on the two-day ride.

The non-competitive mountain bike ride, which goes from D’Arcy to Whistler on day one and from Whistler to Squamish on day 2, has been an annual event since 1995. Many of the riders camp overnight in Whistler after the first day.

The Myrtle Philip school field has been the campground site in the past but municipal staff declined to allow camping there this year.

Ride organizer Robbin McKinney appeared before Whistler council last week to appeal the decision but was directed to look elsewhere for a camping site.

There were more than 200 riders in last year’s Sea to Sky Trail Ride – although not all camped – and it was thought that Riverside Campground couldn’t handle that large a group.

However, McKinney met with the campground owners last week and an arrangement was made to use one of the group sites and an adjacent field.

The Sea to Sky Trail Ride takes place July 5-6. Details are available at www.great-explorations.com
