FIS coach Hilary Lindh from the Whistler Mountain Ski Club was one of the four skiers selected to join the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame this year.
Lindh was just 14 when she was named to the U.S. Development Team, and at age 16 she became the first American to win the downhill title at the World Junior Championships. She represented the U.S. in three Olympic Games, winning the silver medal in 1992.
She won three World Cup races in her career, including the 100 th World Cup won by an American. She was also the only American to win a medal at the 1997 world championships, taking the women’s downhill title.
She currently resides in Squamish, after joining the WMSC last season.
The induction ceremonies will take place on April 28, 2006 at Ishpeming, Michigan, the home of the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame and Museum.
Segger takes on best U.S. teams
Local adventure racer Jen Segger is back in action this weekend at the U.S. Adventure Racing Association national championships in Florida.
It’s a short race, just 30 hours, but will include most of the top U.S. adventure race teams. Segger was selected to race with Team DART this year, which is currently ranked 16 th in the USARA standings.
DART is composed of five men and three women, who come together in teams of three and four for adventure races. In Florida, Segger will be joined by Ryan VanGorder and Matt Hart of Washington.
In the last few months Team DART was fifth at the four-day Ecomotion Pro expedition race in Brazil, first in the Wicked AR Sprint Adventure Racing Championships, first in the Pacific Northwest Championships, and first in the Raid the North.
While the Florida race will be easier in some ways – warm weather and no hills – almost everything will be done at a sprint.
The course will cover 100 miles outside of Tampa, and include trail running, trekking, mountain biking, paddling and orienteering stages.

Wildwood down Whoosh
The Wildwood Women’s Volleyball Team and Whistler Whoosh Women’s Volleyball Team took part in the opening tournament of the season in Vancouver on Oct. 23 rd , with both teams making it to the semi-finals after strong performances in the round robin.
Wildwood and Whoosh faced each other to see who would go on to play the University College of the Fraser Valley in the finals.
In the end Wildwood would advance, beating Whoosh two games to one by digging deep in the tie-breaker.
The UCFV team was a little taller and a lot younger, and while Wildwood kept the matches competitive they lost by close scores of 25-20 and 25-22.
Finishing second entitled Wildwood to the consolation prize, a one kilogram box of truffles for each player.
"It was a good tournament, we had some good laughs, played well, but still have things to work on," said Wildwood spokeswoman Laura Wetaski. "We’re psyched now about the Wildwood tournament."
The Wildwood are hosting the next Volleyball B.C. tournament on Nov. 12 at Whistler Secondary.
If you are interested in joining the team, the Wildwood practices every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Whistler Secondary. Experienced players are welcome to come and check out the team.
Busy weekend for minor hockey
Teams in the Whistler Minor Hockey Association had a busy weekend with 14 games on the schedule. Whistler teams won eight of those games and tied three others, and four teams continued their unbeaten streaks.
The blowout of the week belongs to the Bantam Rep team which defeated North Van B1 19-2 on Saturday. The rep team then went on to add two more wins on Sunday.
The Midget Girls team also moved up a level to Tier 2, where they faced tougher competition. They came away even after two games, with one win – their third this season – and one loss.
