The annual Sea to Sky Squash tournament for 2001 has been moved to a new date. This year's tournament is now set for February 23-25.

Squamish's largest squash tournament is expected to attract more than 50 players from across B.C.

Last year, the Sea to Sky event attracted top quality players by offering the tournament's first ever Men's 'A' category. The tournament proved to be the most competitive yet. The 'A' players proved to be a popular draw. Each 'A' match was watched by a full gallery of tournament spectators. 10 players entered the 'A' division and Vancouver's Mark Korrol ended the weekend as the tournament champion.

Whistler's Rob Eberhard said last year, "The level of competition in the Sea to Sky Tournament's 'A' division has been comparable to any of the most popular tournaments in Vancouver."

Both players have indicated they will return to play again this year.

Tournament Director Trish Bowdler says she's looking forward to this year’s event. "With the change in dates, we won't be conflicting with Seattle's big annual squash tournament. We're hoping that there will be greater interest from keen Lower Mainland squash players who have missed our event in the past in favour of a road trip to Seattle."

Tournament matches will be played at the two courts in Squamish. Local residents entered in the tournament will play their first matches in the days leading up to the event while out of town competitors will begin play on Friday, Feb. 23.

Tournament registration forms are available at the squash courts in Squamish and Whistler. Those interested in registering for the event can do so through the Internet by visiting the tournament section of the Squash B.C. Web site (www.squashbc.com).
