Trinity Ellis of Pemberton 18th in Latvian World Cup

Ellis led all Canadian women in singles, Whistler's Caitlin Nash placed 21st, and Devin Wardrope and Cole Zajanski were 11th in men's doubles

The season rolls on for Canadian luge athletes, who saw World Cup action Jan. 14 and 15 for the second straight week in Sigulda, Latvia. Pembertonian Trinity Ellis led all Canadian women with an 18th-place result in a combined time of one minute, 25.406 seconds. Whistlerite Caitlin Nash was not far behind in 21st (1:25.530). Carolyn Maxwell of Calgary, Alta. did not finish.

Two Germans stood atop the podium's highest steps, with Anna Berreiter winning gold (1:24.600) and Dajana Eitberger taking silver (1:24.631). Bronze went to a local contender, Latvia's Ieva Elina Vitola (1:24.637).

Calgarians Devin Wardrope and Cole Zajanski were also in Latvia, racing to 11th place in a time of 1:25.505. Wardrope and Zajanski are, of course, Canada's lead men's doubles team after the retirement of Tristan Walker and Justin Snith last year.

Six-time Olympic champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt of Germany prevailed once again (1:24.022), followed by a pair of Latvian teams. Martins Bots and Roberts Plume came second (1:24.084) while Eduards Sevics-Mikelsevics and Lukass Krasts finished third (1:24.111).
