It was a golden outing for Valentino Blewett last Saturday at the Youth & Junior iQFOiL International Games in Torbole, Italy.
Blewett prevailed in the U19 men's division. France's Brisedou Leopold occupied the runner-up position, and Robin Zeley placed third for Switzerland. All of them had to get through some unexpected drama, with three athletes penalized for early starts during the semifinal round.
The iQFOiL International Games are considered a top-level event in the realm of windsurfing, just below the U19 World Championships that Blewett finished 11th at last year.
"It went good," said the Whistler Sailing Club alum in an interview with iQFOiL's social media channels. "I started off winning already from the first mark and just stayed in control. The whole week went good, especially the last day I was able to make it up into first position, so I'm happy with the race."
Blewett's father, Curtis, was once an excellent sailor himself: with two America's Cup victories from 2003 and 2007 on his resume.
