On May 25, the 17 th annual Whistler Valley Trail Run is also the first race in the Sea 2 Sky Trail Running Series, which includes other races like the Comfortably Numb Trail Run, Squamish Thunder, STORMY and Rubble Creek Classic.

The race will take place on the same course as last year, and will once again be based out of Ross Rebagliati Park. The 5 km route will run around Lost Lake and back to the park, while the 10 km route will follow the same route to the north end of the lake before turning onto Old Mill Road and following a selection of gravel trails — Tommy Moore and Tin Pants — before returning to the start.

Once again the Valley Trail Run will include the Teddy Bear Trot, with kids 10 and under doing a short run around the park for prizes.

The proceeds from the event have gone towards the Community of Whistler Youth Fund, and this year the race will be dedicated in the name of Pique founding Publisher Kathy Barnett, who helped to establish both the foundation and fund. Barnett died earlier this year.

The cost of registering is $25 per person, and $40 for a family. An additional $3 will be charged for one-day race insurance from B.C. Athletics if you’re not already a member.

Registration is available online until the day before the race, and bib pickup is at the Salomon Store from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Day of race registration is also available for cash or cheque.

There is no charge for the Teddy Bear Trot.

Up to 25 volunteers are need to help out on race day for a few hours. If you can help out, contact Megan Wastle at [email protected].
