From January 20 to 26, 2024, Canada will be represented at the Freeride Junior World Championships (FJWC) solely by athletes from the Whistler Freeride Club (WFC).

Kayla Constantini, Drea Dimma, Kane Gascoigne, Lukas Bennett, Nate Wilson and Kieren Ferguson are set to head to Kappl, Austria next month to push themselves against many of Earth's best young skiers. It's the first time that Team Canada will be comprised entirely of Whistlerites, and it will be a financially costly trip to say the least.

That's why the WFC is inviting the community to a season kick-off party on Dec. 16 at Buffalo Bills. Athletes and their supporters will be present to partake in good food, fellowship and the culmination of this winter's fundraising.

Said fundraiser is a silent auction that closes on Saturday at 6 p.m. The club has set a goal of collecting $18,000 to cover all kinds of expenses.

"Silent auctions are our one big fundraiser," explained Constantini in an email. "It brings in cash for things like coach and travel costs, which means less money stress for all of our parents when we're hitting up competitions. With the funds, we can focus on training and all the gear we need to crush it on the slopes. It's like the whole community is on our team, not just with cheers but also by throwing in donations. So, these fundraisers are like a group effort that makes a huge difference for athletes like me."
