A family enjoys a day of cross country skiing at Whistler Olympic Park in the Callaghan Valley.

Local cross-country skiers with a burning desire to test the snow can do so at Whistler Olympic Park ahead of schedule. On Nov. 10, Whistler Sport Legacies announced two pre-season bonus weekends for the Callaghan Valley venue: Nov. 11 to 13 and Nov. 19 to 20, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

It is important to note that some Whistler Olympic Park activities and services will be unavailable on these pre-season weekends. Snowshoeing trails and dog-friendly trails, as well as the park’s Rental Shop and Café, will remain closed until Nov. 25. Washrooms are available, but there will be no equipment rentals.

Moreover, cross-country ski paths will be limited for the time being, and the early-season trail is not recommended for beginners.

The season’s official opening day remains Nov. 25, at which time all activities and services (including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, biathlon, dog-friendly trails, lessons and rentals, as well as the full-service Day Lodge with café and retail shop) will open, weather-permitting.

Intermediate and advanced-level cross-country skiers who own their own gear can take advantage of the bonus weekends by purchasing discounted day tickets at the gate. All Ski Callaghan and Dual Area passes (including weekday-only) will be valid for pre-season as well.
