The annual West Side Classic and B.C. Road Championships took place this past Sunday, raising more than $130,000 for the B.C. Cancer Foundation with the participation of celebrity riders like Vancouver Canuck Trevor Linden, snowboarder Ross Rebagliati and Belgian cyclist Axel Merckx.
Several Whistler riders made their mark in competition.
The Team Whistler women’s group, mostly based in Sea to Sky, earned two podiums with Steph Roorda first, Lisa Howard third and Heather Lamson fourth, and Jessica Hannah 10 th . As well, Jessica Hannah won the Queen of the Mountain competition, while Heather Lamson won the first lap prime.
In Senior Men it was a Symmetrics sweep of the top-five, with Whistler’s Will Routley missing the podium by a fraction of a second behind teammates Cameron Evans, Svein Tuft, Christian Meier and Ryan Anderson.
In Men’s Master A, Dana Williams of Whistler placed first by a full second to take the gold medal. He is riding for Vancouver-based Team TNA/Shape.
Julian Base of Whistler was sixth, racing for Campione/Ratcliff Cycling Team.
In Master B, Otto Kamstra of Team Whistler placed 12 th .
