Starting July 1, the Whistler Sliding Centre will once again be offering guests a unique Olympic experience with its Summer Bobsleigh program.
The program runs all summer from Canada Day to September 4 and includes a tour of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games venue, an exclusive track walk and a ride down the winding track at upwards of 90 km/h.
Sessions run every Wednesday through Sunday at 10 and 10:30 a.m. and 1 and 1:30 p.m. and cost $109 for an adult. Youth aged 12 to 18 slide free with a full-paying adult. Additional youth are $54.50.
No previous experience is necessary as each participant or team will be riding with a trained bobsleigh pilot.
More information and booking is available at whistlersportlegacies.com/summerbobsleigh or by phone at 604-964-0040.
The Sliding Centre will also be open all summer for free self-guided sightseeing from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day until September 4. Visitors looking to do some sightseeing can pick up a track map at the Guest Services building and explore the venue by taking the interpretive walking tour. Washrooms, retail items and refreshments are also available in the Guest Services building.
As a non-profit, all proceeds from the Centre's programs, like Summer Bobsleigh, go towards growing sliding sports in the area and helping to develop the next generation of luge skeleton and bobsleigh athletes.
