While parts of the Lower Mainland battled flooding this past Sunday, the annual UBC Triathlon and Duathlon went ahead as planned, albeit in wet and windy conditions.
The event is the first major triathlon of the season, and always brings out huge numbers of Sea to Sky athletes.
In the Olympic category (1,500 metres swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run), Christine Suter placed 20 th overall, fourth among women and first in the 35 to 39 age category, with a time of 2:31:44.
In the sprint triathlon, which included an 800 metre swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run, Whistler’s David Higgins finished first overall in 1:08:08 — 23 seconds faster than the next best racer. He was also first out of 26 racers in the men’s 35 to 39 age category.
Paul Suter placed sixth overall and was first out of 13 athletes in the men’s 45 to 49 race with a time of 1:13:17.
Paul Nicholas was 25 th overall and seventh in the 35 to 39 group in 1:21:24.
Dawn Titus was 33 rd overall, and won the women’s 45 to 49 age category in 1:22:45.
Alisa Brownlee was 39 th overall and second in the women’s 40 to 44 group in 1:24:37.
Brandi Higgins was 97 th overall and fourth in the 35 to 39 category in 1:31:11.
