Winterhawks raising funds for provincial tournament

The Whistler Winterhawks PeeWee A team needs your help to take on the rest of the province at the B.C. Provincials Hockey Tournament from March 17 to 22 in Summerland.

The Whistler Winterhawks PeeWee A team needs your help to take on the rest of the province at the B.C. Provincials Hockey Tournament from March 17 to 22 in Summerland.

The team is fund-raising to help pay the cost of travel and accommodation for up to 17 players.

"We have to stay there for four or five nights, and all through the year we spend our money going up and down the highway for games – every little bit helps," says team manager Pauline Wiebe.

"They’re a great group of kids. Simon Hudson is doing a great job as coach and there are a group of terrific parents. This tournament is a great opportunity for everybody."

One fund-raising effort is a bottle drive – team members and dedicated parents will be cruising Whistler on Saturday looking for bottles to return to the depot. If you are not going to be home, the Winterhawks are asking you to leave your bottles outside you door with a note saying they are for the PeeWee team.

Wiebe says she will also pick up any bottles by special arrangement or accept donations to the cause at 932-4063.
