Over the years the sport of women's freeskiing has been pushed hard by a core group of athletes, but none have pushed harder than Sarah Burke. Burke is the first female skier to land a 720, then a 900 and a 1080.

Racers woke up to 15 cm of fresh snow on the morning of Jan. 6, but the Whistler Blackcomb grooming and events crews managed to get a giant slalom course ready on Ptarmigan for the second Kokanee Valley Race Series of the season.

This weekend the Whistler Sliding Centre will host the first of two B.C. Cup races with developing athletes in luge, skeleton and bobsleigh all competing.

The British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame inducted nine individuals and two teams this year, after sifting through 120 nominations.

This week Lake Louise hosted the first Pontiac GMC Cup series of the season, with two giant slalom and two slalom competitions. The Whistler Mountain Ski Club was well-represented, with eight athletes competing on the B.C.

Although the World Cup at St. Johann, Austria was somewhat disappointing for the Canadian women's ski cross team, the event was a landmark for one veteran and one rookie on the men's side.
