When a wind warning is in place, the surfers will come out to play.
Surfers and kite surfers took the opportunity to catch some waves at West Vancouver's Ambleside Beach Monday, with strong gusty north west winds expected to reach up to 70km/h causing a little swell.
BJ Clayden, a North Vancouver photographer, sent in a snap he captured of four surfers at Ambleside beach making the most of a break from the November rain to hit the waves in the sunshine around 1:30 p.m.
Others took to social media to share their delight in the weather event.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Metro Vancouver due to powerful winds moving across the B.C. South Coast, Monday morning.
Metro Vancouver, Southern Gulf Islands, Sunshine Coast - Gibsons to Earls Cove and communities in the mouth of Howe Sound, including Bowen Island, were hit by south to southeast winds up to 60 km/h which veered sharply to the northwest 40 to 60 km/h with gusts up to 70km/h.
BC Hydro reported several power outages across the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island due to the damaging winds. In total, 8,279 customers have been affected by the outages.
These winds are expected to decrease later this afternoon.
