It's officially acceptable to start counting down to Whistler Blackcomb's opening day, set for Nov. 26, in days rather than weeks. We're almost there!

(Barring any additional COVID-19 provincial health orders, knock on wood.)

Conditions are already looking better than they did in 2019, after a couple of heavy snowfalls in the last week. Even better?

Whistler is about to get more.

According to both Environment Canada and the Weather Network, the resort is set to see rain or flurries fall over the next six consecutive days.

While the predicted precipitation may come in the form of rain for the valley, aside from a few scattered flurries, the alpine could see a few additional centimetres of snow dumped on high-elevation terrain in the coming week. According to snow-forecast.com, Whistler Blackcomb can expect to see up 20 cm of the good stuff falling at a 1480-metre altitude over both Tuesday and Wednesday, while Whistler Blackcomb is predicting up to 25 cm of snow accumulation Monday.

Currently, the resort's base depth is sitting at 55 cm, with 12 cm of new snow in the previous 24 hours, as of Sunday morning.

Environment Canada is calling for cloudy conditions on Monday, Nov. 16, with a 60 per cent chance of flurries in the morning, followed by periods of rain mixed with wet snow that will begin falling around noon and a high of 2°C. Temperatures will rise considerably on Tuesday, reaching a high of 7°C.

So, as opening day approaches, keep praying to Ullr, and while we're on the topic, send us your best submissions for this year's Ode to Ullr contest.

All you need to do is submit a photo of you, your family or your friends enjoying the snow for a chance to win one of two snow packages, valued between $900 and $1200.

You don't need to be a pro
or even a skier or snowboarder, for that matter—to enter. Whether it's building snowmen, snowshoeing, shredding, having a snowball fight or something else we haven't thought of, all we want to see is proof you love snow.

Email your photos to ullr@piquenewsmagazine.com, or post them to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #piqueullr2020 by Nov. 29 at 11:59 p.m. to enter.
