Locals are being urged to stay clear of the Green River FSR area near Pemberton due to flooding. A rainfall warning remains in effect for Pemberton and the entire Sea to Sky, with Environment Canada predicting up to 50 millimetres of rain in the corridor.

The Pemberton Valley Dyking District (PVDD) is monitoring the situation, and told Pique there is no cause for immediate concern as the river is not near an inhabited area.

Locals can find timely and informative updates from the PVDD on Facebook.

“It looks like the weather is not going to let us down yet,” reads one Jan. 29 Facebook post. "There is another 20 to 30-plus mm of rain to come overnight. We have three pumps going right now and are holding the line right now at Peaks and Mobile home park. The Arn Canal is still rising as is Pemberton Creek. We do not see this turning until tomorrow morning. Properties along the Arn should be on alert for water in low-lying areas. One Mile Lake is flooded so please steer clear of that area.”

There was debris on the roadway between Soo Valley Road and Nairn Falls Park road this morning, with a single lane of alternating traffic in place. DriveBC reported delays of up to 30 minutes.

The Village of Pemberton (VOP) posted a heavy rainfall warning and closed the boardwalk around One Mile Lake on Jan. 29.

“A rainfall warning is currently in effect as a series of storms continue to bring heavy rain and mild temperatures to the Pemberton area," reads an upate posted to the VOP's website.

"Periods of rain will continue throughout the night, gradually easing to a few light showers by Tuesday morning. The combination of heavy rainfall, warm temperatures, snowmelt and heavy runoff is leading to localized minor flooding in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage.”

Sandbags are available to anyone who needs them.

“A self-serve sandbag station is located at the Municipal Hall parking lot at 7400 Prospect Street (across from the RCMP station),” said the VOP. “This is available to all residents in the Pemberton Valley.”
