Whistler Blackcomb is closed Tuesday, Aug. 29 due to lightning.

Heads up if you were planning on heading up the mountain today: Whistler Blackcomb is closed due to lightning in the forecast.

"We have fire crews and responders on site in case of emergency," WB said in a post to its social media channels.

"Safety of our guests and our staff is our top priority and we will continue to provide updates as needed."

Whistler Blackcomb said its team will contact guests "who have purchased Bike Park tickets or PEAK 2 PEAK Sightsee Tickets directly through whistlerblackcomb.com to transfer the day or provide a refund."

In-resort guests with questions can visit WB's Guest Services locations, which will close at 5 p.m. today.

Follow @WBMtnOps or text WBLIFT to 686677 for live updates, and visit the live lift and terrain status page at Whistlerblackcomb.com.

The closure comes after a very small wildfire was reported on the back side of Whistler Mountain on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 29.

According to WB, the blaze was caused by lightning.

As of about 11 a.m. on Tuesday, it was considered out.

"The fire has been extinguished and crews are now entering the mop up stage," a spokesperson said. "Extensive fire watch has not identified any other fires in the area. Whistler Blackcomb will remain closed for the day due to an unstable weather pattern with more storm activity forecast."
