Whistler police beef up school-bus safety following concerns

Officers said they are using both marked and unmarked police vehicles along bus routes to monitor for any infractions

Local RCMP said they have enhanced safety measures for Whistler students after a number of complaints of vehicles passing school buses during busy pick-up and drop-off times.

Officers said they are using both marked and unmarked police vehicles along bus routes to monitor for any infractions, enhanced measures that were launched authorities received “several traffic complaints pertaining to motorists passing school buses,” police said in a release.
“Passing a school bus when it is stopped is extremely irresponsible and dangerous; you’re putting children’s lives at risk.”

It is an offence under the Motor Vehicle Act to fail to stop for a school bus when its flashing lights are activated, and comes with a fine of $368.
