Whistler-based non-profit Zero Ceiling has received $47,000 for its housing and employment program, thanks to support from the national charity Hockey Helps the Homeless.
Zero Ceiling empowers youth to thrive in Whistler by providing housing, employment and outdoor adventure, fostering a supportive community where all youth belong.
Its housing and employment program offers participants secure housing for 12 to 24 months alongside full-time, supportive employment. The community-based initiative includes mentorship from the Zero Ceiling team, allowing young people to be themselves and grow along the way.
The organization serves youth aged 19 to 27 across B.C., particularly those who face barriers to stable housing and employment, including Indigenous, newcomer, and 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, according to its website.
In addition to housing and work opportunities, participants share family-style meals and take part in outdoor adventures to build confidence and develop new skills.
Hockey Helps the Homeless is a national charity founded in 1996 that has granted more than $28 million to “shutout homelessness.”
Upcoming fundraisers for Zero Ceiling include the Sky’s the Limit Silent Auction, which runs from Aug. 27 to Sept. 21, and a free Skate Jam event on Aug. 27 at the Whistler Skate Park, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. The event will feature a live DJ, food from Splitz Grill, and prizes.
