It was a successful outing for Team Canada at the recent U17 Pan-American Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Canadians earned nine medals across various age and gender divisions, with two bronzes courtesy of the ladies: Kamryn Mason at 49 kilograms and Clara Perry (53kg). Squamish-based athlete Mariza Nasu (43kg) almost joined them, but the reigning Canadian champ fell short in fourth.

A quartet of men went home with silver medals: Uday Billen (110kg), Harjot Shergill (92kg), Beau Chartrand (80kg) and Jonrex Casa (51kg). Three of their compatriots, Liam Gorton (65kg), Nathan Nash (60kg) and Aaharen Piranavan (55kg), worked their way to bronze.

The men's freestyle team also placed third in the team event.
