Here’s a quick look at how Whistler athletes fared on Saturday and Sunday at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing (spoilers ahead if you’re still hoping to watch for yourself).

On the luge track, Whistler’s Reid Watts—the only Canadian male in the event—slid to a 17th-place finish, while Germany’s Johannes Ludwig took the gold.

Wolfgang Kindl of Austria and Dominik Fischnaller of Italy took silver and bronze, respectively.

Meanwhile, moguls skier Sofiane Gagnon skied her way to the finals at her first Olympic Games before suffering a heartbreaking crash—but the 22-year-old Whistlerite wasn’t letting the setback get her down.

"It definitely motivates me," Gagnon told The Canadian Press "I'm already hungry for more, I already want to start training for 2026. I couldn't be more ready to keep progressing and to keep working."

Australia's Jakara Anthony won gold, Jaelin Kauf of the United States took silver and Russian’s Anastasiia Smirnova took bronze.

Originally slated for Saturday night, the men’s downhill—featuring Broderick Thompson, Brodie Seger and Jack Crawford—was postponed due to high winds. The event will now take place at 8 p.m. Sunday night local time.

Whistler resident and Regina, Sask. native Mark McMorris punched his ticket to today’s snowboard slopestyle final, while Whistler’s Darcy Sharpe came up short in his first Olympic competition.

The slopestyle finals take place tonight at 8 p.m., followed by big air qualifiers at 9:30 (featuring Whistler’s Teal Harle).

For the Monday morning early risers, first-time Olympians Natalie Corless of Whistler and Trinity Ellis of Pemberton, as well as Whistlerite Veronica Ravenna (competing for her home country of Argentina), will all hit the luge track for their first runs beginning at 3:50 a.m. local time.
