The Whistler Secondary School (WSS) senior boys rugby team has earned its first-ever provincial title.
After a 5-1 regular season, the Storm were nearly perfect at the B.C. Tier 2 AA Boys Championships held from May 28 to 31 in Abbotsford: beating Windsor 26-10 and LA Matheson 26-5. Whistler then downed last year's champs, D.W. Popp, by a score of 26-10 to grab its banner.
Six players: Tannen DesBrisay, Sam Cousineau, Jack MacAllister, Alfie Train, Aidan Thornhill and Matty Marino, were spotted by university scouts and invited to try out for North Vancouver's U19 rep squad and Canada's U18 roster.
"This is our second season in the [North Shore Sea to Sky] League and great effort to win Tier 2 in AA Provincials," said head coach Peter Train. "The players would like to say a big thank you to the Axemen for their support and in particular to Stephen List for coaching, which has helped raise our level of play to the elite level."
