Bear aware welcomes Charlie Russell

The Whistler Bear Aware Program would like to congratulate this week’s prize draw winners of the Residential Challenge: The Stark and Jennings Family of group 3, winners of tickets to the Bear Aware Party on Nov. 15 th . The leading Whistler neighbourhood in the residential challenge is currently group 3. To find out which of the nine groups you live in, look at the first number of your street address.

Join in and bear proof your home by picking up a checklist at IGA, Nesters, Creekside Market, or The Village Grocery Store, and simply follow the instructions.

The 1 st Annual Bear Aware Week, November 12 th -16 th , starts next Monday in hopes of promoting bear awareness, safety, and education. The week also honours Bear Aware/Smart residents and businesses who have been participating in the challenge.  

Highlighted events include:

November 13 th - Free Black Bear Info Night, Marriott at 7 p.m.

Learn about Black Bears from Whistler’s Bear Experts including the Bear Aversion Research Team, Bear Aware, and the Conservation Officer Service.

November 14 th - Charlie Russell in person, MY Millennium Place at 7:30 p.m. Featuring the 90-minute documentary: Edge of Eden, Living with Grizzlies. Learning from Bears. Russell is a researcher who has gone further into the world of the grizzly bears than anyone else. A presentation and question period will follow the film. Tickets: $23

November 15 th - Bear Aware Party, Black’s Pub at 7 p.m.

Live music and complimentary pizza bar. Learn from Charlie Russell and other bear advocates. Prizes, silent auction, celebrate residential challenge winners, and an hour of great music performed by Pemberton’s Still Smokin. Tickets: $21
