More people than ever will be able to get a taste of the Blackcomb Foundation’s fourth annual BC Tel Mobility Winter Classic. An evening of Canadian wines and cheeses will kick off the annual two-day fund-raising event at Merlin’s on Feb. 9. Wine glasses will be sold as part of an admission fee and patrons will then be free to fill them with a variety of Canadian wines. This year the Friday evening reception is open to everyone. The BC Tel Mobility Classic has raised more than $125,000 for local charities in its first three years. The two-day event at Blackcomb includes the wine and cheese reception on Feb. 9, a fun team ski race on Feb. 10 and an exclusive mountain-top dinner, dance and auction on the evening of Feb. 10. While corporate teams have primarily been involved in past BC Tel Mobility Classics, the Blackcomb Foundation hopes to involve more individuals, particularly locals, through the Friday evening reception. The beneficiaries of this year’s event will be Whistler Community Services, Whistler Search and Rescue, Pemberton Search and Rescue, the Whistler Children’s Centre, the Peter Zhignesse Memorial Fund and Family Services of the North Shore. For more information about the event, the foundation or funding applications contact Cathy Dixon at 925-9319.
