If you own an Afghan hound you should probably plan to attend a free lecture by dog expert and psychologist Dr. Stanley Coren.
After all, according to Coren you own the dumbest dog in the world, and probably need a little help training it.
Even if you own the most intelligent dog, a border collie, Coren the author of three books on dogs and their behaviour, will have some tips.
He will speak in Whistler at the Myrtle Philip Community Centre at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 21.
Coren will also share his expertise on how to chose a family dog, read your dog’s body language, test your dog’s smarts, understand the language of the bark, and tailor a training program for best results at the Pemberton Library Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.
He received his doctorate in Psychology at Stanford University and has published hundreds of research articles in respected journals around the world on such diverse subjects as sleep, laterality, handedness, birth stress, behaviour genetics and cognitive processing.
Coren is a psychology professor at the University of B.C. but his passion is dogs. He's a prize-winning dog trainer and a judge at obedience trials.
Wizard, a King Charles Spaniel and Odin, a Flat Coated Retriever, keep him busy with dog-related activities.
No word on whether they will be available for questions on human behaviour.
