At the request of the head of Whistler Railtours, council will write a letter to the provincial government lobbying for a passenger rail service to the resort.

They will also ask if they can have representation on the selection committee, charged with picking a passenger service on BC Rail lines.

John Haibeck said a RFP for passenger service, just like the current RFP for freight service on the BC Rail lines, will even out the playing field for companies vying for passenger service.

Haibeck is proposing to bring a passenger rail train that will offer a year-round daily service to Whistler. In addition to carrying cruise ship tourists, Whistler Railtours will have staggered fares to cater to commuters and locals.

Last week the Great Canadian Railtour Company announced it was planning to bring a tourist train called the Whistler Mountaineer to the BC Rail lines.
