The keepsakes include pins from roughly 40 different countries around the world, dozens of flags and the Olympic ribbons from some athlete bouquets.

All for were dropped off at the memorial out of respect for the fallen Georgian luger who died on Feb. 12 at the Whistler Sliding Centre.

Two full books of condolences have been signed to date and a third is resting at the memorial, along with a dozen bouquets of flowers.

When asked this week whether Whistler will have a permanent memorial for Kumaritashvili, Mayor Ken Melamed said: "That's something that we're thinking about. Celebration Plaza is an opportunity.

"We need to find a way to acknowledge Nodar and the Canadian athletes who have done well through the Games around Whistler."
