Temporary housing still in the works Temporary employee housing for this winter is getting closer. Two proposals for temporary employee housing camps are expected to come to council in the next couple of weeks. The first is for up to 300 units on private land at the south end of Alpine Meadows, straddling both sides of Alta Lake Road. The second is at the old Rainbow ski area site on Highway 99 north of Alpine Meadows, which is also private land. The units will be pre-fabricated structures and should be in place in time for the ski season. However, some roadwork and servicing of the sites will be required. The temporary housing must be removed within three years. While the projects are being proposed by private land owners, details such as who will get first crack at the units has still to be worked out. Whistler councillors cleared the legal path for temporary employee housing Monday by exempting such units from works and services charges.
