The banks of the Fitzsimmons Creek were lined with kids on Thanksgiving Monday chanting, "Throw the ducks! Throw the ducks!"

Big red boxes were perched on the ledge of the Fitzsimmons Bridge filled to the brim with small rubber ducks.

Just after 2p.m. the kids got their wish. The buckets were tipped and hundreds of ducks splashed into the creek in the 11 th annual duck race, briefly turning the waters of the Fitzsimmons yellow.

Bobbing and weaving around rocks on the creek, the ducks swept towards the finish line at the Lorimer Road Bridge as kids ran along the edges of the banks to follow their progress.

The winner of the race was Marjit Uppal from the Lower Mainland who won a trip for two to Las Vegas.

Second prize went to Nick Parsice of Whistler who won a Gold card package for the mountain.

Another local Kim Charters won third prize, a Victoria weekend getaway.

The event raised roughly $9,000. The money will go towards the operation of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program in Whistler and Pemberton and the Inschool mentoring program in Pemberton.
