In last week’s story "Bear fatalities down in 2003" it was reported that the Whistler Black Bear Project recorded 150 bear sightings in 2003 outside of residential areas. According to Michael Allen of the Whistler Black Bear Project, they recorded thousands of sightings last year. The 150 represents the number of public reports collected, of which 80 per cent were from residential areas.
