More locals may now receive free and confidential legal advice thanks to a new Sea to Sky Community Services program.
The Poverty Law Advocacy Program is available in Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton.
"Often, people are simply not aware of their legal rights," Peter Kabengele, SSCS poverty law advocate, said in a press release. "This new program is designed to give free advocacy and assistance to those in the Sea to Sky Corridor who may not otherwise be able to afford this kind of support."
Those living in the corridor can access the new Poverty Law Advocacy program for help including appealing Assistance Benefits denials, hearings on housing matters between tenants and landlords, and human rights issues. The program began in June, with the help of the Law Foundation of British Columbia.
The Whistler program is offered through the Whistler Community Services Society at 8000 Nesters Rd by appointment only on Thursdays, in Pemberton access is on Fridays by appointment only and the Squamish program is offered at Centrepoint at 38024 Fourth Ave. Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. To book appointments call 604-389-8069.
