Wolfgang Richter’s Garibaldi Alpen group has been granted a 60-day extension for his proposed Garibaldi at Squamish mountain resort.

Richter was given until Feb. 28 to show B.C. Assets and Land Corporation he had the financing in place to see the project through the provincial approval process. Richter said Wednesday BCAL has been privy to his negotiations and has granted him additional time.

"The government is anxious that something real is happening and we’ve been showing them that," Richter said. "They’re in full knowledge of what’s going on."

Richter said he’s not negotiating just with financial lenders but with people in the real estate development business and ski area operators as he attempts to put together a team that can complete the approval process and then develop the resort at Brohm Ridge.

Garibaldi Alpen was given exclusive rights to come up with a comprehensive plan for the Crown land within a four-year period but suffered a major setback when it lost a key investor over a year ago. The four year period ended Feb. 28.
