If you were interested in making one last trek up to Garibaldi Lake this October, you may be out of luck.
Due to an increase in bear activity in the area, BC Parks, on the recommendation of the Conservation Officer Service, is closing the trail to Garibaldi Lake and the Garibaldi Lake area of Garibaldi Park in order to preserve public safety, BC Parks announced on Oct. 22.
This is an addition to the full closure of the Taylor Meadows campground and the Taylor Meadows access trail, which were announced earlier this month. "There are a number of bears feeding in the meadows so in order to protect this important bear habitat, the campground will remain closed," wrote BC Parks on social media at the time.
According to a notice on BC Parks’ website, the closures may be in effect until Oct. 31.
