Despite the sunny weather and otherwise perfect driving conditions, the Whistler RCMP responded to several motor vehicle accident calls between March 27 and March 31.
At 6 a.m. on March 27, the police were called to a collision on Highway 99 near the Rainbow subdivision. The occupants of a van were struck from behind by a semitrailer and pushed off the road.
Two of the occupants of the van were taken to the Whistler Health Care Centre with minor injuries and released, while the driver of the semi was given a ticket for following too closely.
Just before 9 a.m. on March 30 the RCMP received a call regarding a vehicle rollover at Highway 99 and Alpine Way. When the police arrived they spoke to a witness and learned that the driver had already been taken to the Whistler Health Care Centre for treatment. The 23-year-old Whistler female driver told police she wasn't paying attention, and hit the barrier.
The vehicle, which had Utah plates, wasn't insured and she was given a ticket for driving without proper insurance.
On March 30 just after 8 p.m. the Whistler RCMP responded to a call on Highway 99 and Nita Lane regarding a vehicle that had driven off the road into a telephone poll. A witness saw the driver get out of the vehicle and stash a box of wine in the woods nearby. The police arrived and arrested him on suspicions of impaired driving. A 46-year-old male from North Vancouver provided two samples of 0.220 per cent, or close to three times the legal limit. He now faces charges of impaired driving and driving over the legal limit.
