Get in-line Blackcomb's In-line skate park has rolled into action — complete with the valley's largest halfpipe. Skateboarders stood outside the fences on opening day July 8 and watched as in-line skaters performed tricks on the pay per-use outdoor facility, located at the bottom of the Wizard Chair. Users can get into the facility by purchasing passes for two hours, a day, week or a month. The in-line park will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. weather permitting. According to Cristof Deszecker, manager of the In-Line Skate Shop, the local in-line skaters are excited about the facility that comes with a fun box, rails, a small ramp, spin ramp, small halfpipe and the big daddy — the mother of all halfpipes — a 48 foot by 24 foot monster that is 11 feet high at the ends. "The skaters are very excited about the big halfpipe," says Deszecker. Blackcomb bought the new halfpipe from the City of Calgary and it was shipped to Whistler by truck. Deszecker says in-line skating is the fastest growing sport in North America and the park should be pretty busy because local skaters are keen on testing their tricks.
